Hello there, I'm Zot. I'm 23 years old, play the violin and piano, love to read, and listen to all kinds of music. Right now I'm a Ph.D. student in physics at UIUC. To read more about my work, click here.

These are my adventures.

I'm listening to my entire 24 GB music library from start to finish. Follow my progress here.

Music Library A-Z: #3

I’m going to start grouping these music library posts together, otherwise this project will become totally unmanageable.

  • Album: Academy of St. Martin in the Fields: Haydn Cello Concertos with Mstislav Rostropovich, Mozart Symphonies 40 & 41
  • Thoughts: I don’t think I’ve listened to an entire Mozart symphony since my undergrad music-major days. Also, the Haydn cello concerto is really nice.

Music Library A-Z: #2

  • Album: Les Miserables: 10th Anniversary Concert
  • Thoughts: It’s Les Mis! I’m one of those pathetic people who never saw or heard it before the recent movie, but I’ve had time to pick out some favorites. At The End of the Day and Empty Chairs at Empty Tables are my winners, I’m not a huge fan of too much moaning and groaning over love. From this performance I adore the first encore in which dozens of Valjeans sing in the different languages into which Les Miserables has been localized. Obviously.

Zot’s Music Library A-Z

Let’s start from the top, shall we.

  • Artist: 30 Seconds to Mars
  • Album: This is War
  • Thoughts: Admittedly the best known track on this album is “This Is War,” having been featured in some movie or other if I recall correctly (Edit: it’s actually in Dragon Age Origins, which is how I first heard of it), but the whole thing continues in a similarly rousing and  theatrical vein. I find it excellent jogging music. Also I found myself dancing alone in my kitchen, so there’s that.
  • Song of note: “Closer to the Edge

I think it’s a travesty that I have 23.7 GB of music, a portion of which I’ve never even heard, and still let myself get bored with my own music tastes.

How long would it take me to listen to the entire library?
